JULIA MOSS
COMPOSITION
JULIA MOSS (she/her) is a Los Angeles-based composer and violist who tries to foster community everywhere she goes. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Music Composition at the University of Southern California (USC) Thornton School of Music.
Julia writes music that is thought-provoking and emotionally gripping. She is interested in making art that invites people to examine the systems that we are a part of and digs into the complications of our inner psychological lives. She has collaborated with various dancers at USC’s Kaufman School of Dance, and she is currently writing a staged theatrical work that combines her music with storytelling.
Julia is a Composer Teaching Artist Fellow for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), as well as the Orchestra Manager of USC’s contemporary ensemble Thornton Edge. She has also worked at the Aspen Music Festival as the Orchestra Manager of the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble (ACE).
Prior to her musical journey, Julia pursued a medical career and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Tufts University. While in Boston, she worked at Boston Children’s Hospital as a research assistant in a music cognition lab. She was also very active as a violist while there, playing with the Lowell Chamber Orchestra and holding a principal position in the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
